Archive for March, 2009

Well! Jen and I had a very productive weekend. Which is awesome, because I have a ton of freelance to catch up on, and we’re going to see John Vanderslice on Wednesday, and Unbunny on Thursday. So it is a full week. And we are very happy to break our recent pattern of late posting with an early post.

This week’s song is called “Lost and Unsettled.” Jen and I first started trying to record our songs during March of last year, with terrible, terrible results. This was one of those songs. However, this is not that recording (fortunately for all who might hear it). We’re very excited about this new arrangement and recording. Hmm, what else can I tell you? It’s a waltz. I loves me a good waltz. Oh, and Jen makes her debut on the accordion on this track, and I think she played that squeezebox quite nicely. We’ve been waiting for a good chance to get the bellows on a recording.

Thanks, as always, for listening!

Good evening! Here is this week’s track, Hold Over Me. I have to confess, we scrapped the medley thing and decided to record a track that Jen wrote a while ago–a song we’ve been looking forward to recording since October (although now it has a much different arrangement than it did in the fall when it was a solo piano and voice tune). Anyway, Hold Over Me had the same tempo as part two to the medley and was ultimately a better song, so… yeah! We just went for it.

Hope you guys like it. Special thanks to everyone who has emailed or commented on the blog–your encouragement really means a lot to us.

See you for next week’s song, “Lost and Unsettled” (unless we decide on something different between now and then!).

We’re almost done with the new song, called “Hold Over Me,” and I am psyched. Just a couple background vox to fix up and we’ll be done. But first we have to sleep tonight, then wake up tomorrow, go to work, come home, get our taxes done, then eat, then watch the Office… and 30 Rock… but, the song WILL be up! And I am quite pleased because this song is a rocker and I like it so much that I keep doing interpretive dance when I play the rough mix. But maybe I’m just hyper because I had cream soda tonight? Anyway, please, please, please come back tomorrow night and let us know what you think.

Some of you know that Jen and I are in a second band with our pal, Mike. That band is called Human Beat Box Light Show and we like to refer to this endeavor as an improv electronica band, because when we go upstairs into Studio Tragic (aka our guest bedroom/recording studio) we just sit down with some synthesizers and start recording without a plan. The songs usually begin with a Casio beat that we try to mangle into something original. We have an album called Salty Senses that I STILL need to mix… heh.. as well as an EP of music made solely on an Atari 2600 called A Tar E.P. (get it? get it?!). Oh, and a novelty holiday rap song called “Christmas Slash Birthday Present.” And if anyone wants to hear that stuff, just let me know.

ANYway, Mike came over this weekend and we hunkered down in Studio Tragic and emerged with this ditty that we like to call “Launch Pad To Nowhere.”

Please enjoy our latest tune. We will now retreat back to the studio to record our song for week 11.

SO! Here’s the new track. It’s part one of a two-part medley type thing. Part two will be the song for next week. It’s nice out and we’re going to go on a walk. See you in a couple days for part 2!

It’s a bit ambitious and is taking some extra time to finish up. Hopefully we’ll post tomorrow, but Friday seems more realistic at this point. Groan….

Updated song file

In case anyone cares, I tweaked the mix on the new song and re-uploaded it. There was one background vocal that was off, and one errant hand clap in the bridge. And now they are fixed!
