Week 1 – Little Houses was our first tune and boy have we learned a lot since then.
Week 2 – Vanishing Point, in which we explore our love of electronic music, just a wee bit.
Week 3 – Caught in a Frame, where Matt makes his singing debut, thus embarrassing himself on the internets for everyone to hear.
Week 4 – Locked Piano, a song that features no piano, so we also recorded a piano-only version–you know, so the piano wouldn’t feel left out.
Week 5 – Variations, featuring a pseudo-wall of sound created with an atari 2600.
Week 6 – Outlier, recorded in one marathon evening from 6pm to 1:30am. But what a great evening! Our favorite recording session yet. Everything just worked. It almost never just works.
Week 7 – Happy-Go-Lucky, based on a true story that happened to Jen, which I’ve now hyped, so she’ll probably never tell said story.
Week 8 – Impossibly Steep – a quiet and simple song. We enjoyed recording this one.
Week 9 – John Darnielle Is Being Slowly Crushed By The Weight Of His Fans’ Adulation – We read an article about how JD sometimes struggles with how much his fans love him. He has said he has a hard time relating to people, and man, can we relate to that.
Week 10 – 57 Photographers – Not sure this song got exactly where we wanted it to go, but it was a fun experiment anyway.
Week 11 – Hold Over Me – Jen wrote this song last year as a solo piano piece and we reworked it with an upbeat new arrangement.
Week 12 – Lost And Unsettled - We love waltzes, and we had a great time recording this song. Well, Jen didn’t have fun playing the accordion, but everything else was a gas.
Week 13 – An Inch From Giving Up – Inspired by my week of jury duty… which was really, really sad.
Week 14 – Shadows Intersecting – Jen wrote this one in like a half hour, but then we totally experimented on it and changed it from a quiet, acoustic thing to… whatever it ended up as.
Week 15 – Big Zeros – We just wanted to do something completely different from our other stuff, good or bad! And it is different, alright.
Week 16 – Acting In Reverse – This is the second of two songs we recorded this week. The other one was plagued by technical difficulties and we plan to rerecord it for week 17.
Week 17 – One Whole Piece – Here’s that song I spoke of in week 16. It gave us as many problems this week, but at least we finished and posted it!
Week 18 – Sleeping in the Crucible - This was supposed to be a simple piano ‘n’ voice song, but it quickly spiraled out of control. That’s right, we were about to lose control, and I think we liked it!
Week 19 – Wherever You Want To Go – With Matt on the uke and Jen on the accordion. Fun! We had a great time recording this song.
Week 20 – Romanian Names (John Vanderslice cover) – John Vanderslice is our hero, and this is a cover of the title track of his excellent new album. If you like our cover, you’ll like Vanderslice’s original even more, because he is much, much more awesome then we are.
Week 21 – What Devours Us – Laid back little song based on a drum loop. This one was fun.
Week 22 – Missing Girls – Originally just acoustic guitar and vox, we overdubbed an electric piano and guitar to make this one a little spookier.
Week 23 – Permanent Address - This is an older song that we re-recorded for this project.
Week 24 – I Like It (Moog Waltz) – An instrumental tune featuring our new (to us) vintage Moog synth.
Week 25 – The Time Capsule - We were pretty pleased with this one!
Week 26 – Witness
I love them all for their warmth and depth, but my favorite so far is Vanishing Point, the “electronic” one. Does this surprise anybody?
This was absolutely lovely to listen to … especially while studying. Very impressed.
I also love the Square-Catty Alien Band picture
You guys need to stop being so cool. Seriously.
Props to you all!
Fuck yeah!!!
